The Batman 2’s First Look Photos Reveal DC Sequel’s Setting

Matt Reeves traded his usual social media silence for a flurry of cryptic posts that sent the internet into a frenzy over The Batman Part 2. The director dropped a series of teases on X (formerly Twitter) that peeled back the curtain on where and when the DC sequel will take its Dark Knight next.

Matt Reeves gives first look at The Batman 2, teases setting and snow fight

Director Matt Reeves shared the first official look at production on The Batman Part 2 on X on Thursday. Reeves posted an image of the film’s Batmobile seemingly during a camera test with the caption, “#SnowTires,” alongside a bat emoji. The tease confirms the long-awaited sequel is finally in production and will feature a winter setting.

When a fan asked Reeves directly whether the post showed testing for The Batman Part 2, the filmmaker replied, “Sure is!” on X.

Another fan account expressed excitement about seeing Batman fight in the snow during the film. Reeves responded to that post with, “Indeed, it is,” confirming a snowy action sequence will appear in the sequel.

Reeves also shared a behind-the-scenes photo from what appeared to be a monitor playback session on set. He captioned that post, “Just over here having a little fun…” while showing camera equipment and footage on a display. The snowy setting has fueled fan speculation about a possible Mr. Freeze introduction, though no actor has been cast as Victor Fries.

Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne alongside Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon. Andy Serkis reprises his role as Alfred Pennyworth, while Barry Keoghan is expected to appear again as the Joker. The sequel has also added Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Dent and Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent to the cast.

Reeves co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin and expressed strong enthusiasm for the project at the Emmys in September 2025. The 2022 original grossed $772 million worldwide against a reported budget of $185-200 million.

The Batman Part 2 is set to open in theaters on October 1, 2027.
