Super Mario Movies Should Break Nintendo’s Rule for 1 Important Reason

The Super Mario movies have done an excellent job of incorporating Nintendo characters into the two films. One character has been notably absent, but they could show up in future movies if Nintendo breaks this one rule.

There was speculation that Wario might show up in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie as an antagonist. However, the character never appeared in the movie.

In an interview with Crank In, producers Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri spoke about the success of the Mario movies. Miyamoto spoke about a specific rule explaining why Nintendo makes movies for children that don’t include adult humor. Wario’s humor is more adult-oriented, which might explain why the character has not appeared in movies. However, Miyamoto is not ruling out the character in future movies.

“I think of children as adults, they just don’t have as much knowledge yet. That’s why I don’t want to make them laugh with dirty jokes, and I’ve even given Chris a ban on dirty jokes,” Miyamoto said. “Oh, that doesn’t mean Wario won’t be in it, though.

Why the Super Mario movies need to include this character in future entries

Even if Wario is included in the next Super Mario movie, Miyamoto must incorporate most of the character’s traits. Fans do not want to see a watered-down version of this antagonist. If Nintendo and Universal want to scale back on some of Wario’s toilet humor, that’s fine. However, they must keep Wario’s evil and chaotic spirit alive in future movies. If that happens, Wario is a natural foil to Mario and could be an ideal villain for the next entry.

Miyamoto also understands that Wario could appear in future movies if they focus on the action and not the humor.

“Action is something that both adults and children can understand equally, so I think if we make it with action as the main focus, we can create a film that won’t be boring,” Miyamoto added.
