Paul Bettany has responded to rumors linking him to the Voldemort casting in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot. He clarified that no official conversations have taken place regarding the casting. Speaking to ScreenRant, the actor acknowledged that he was aware of the speculation but dismissed it as unconfirmed talk.
“I’ve heard that rumor, too. Unfortunately, it’s just a rumor,” Bettany said during the interview. While discussing the possibility of joining another major franchise following his long run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bettany was asked whether the wizarding world would appeal to him. “I’m not sure that I could face any more prosthetics in my life. I’ve had a lot of them,” he explained.
As the conversation continued, the interviewer remarked that he would be perfect for the role of Voldemort. Bettany replied, “Oh thank you very much. Maybe by then we’ll be able to AI my nose.” Before moving on from the topic, the Marvel actor once again made it clear that no discussions have taken place regarding the part. “Anyway, nobody’s even asking me to do it,” he added.
The actor had previously denied the rumors in another interview with the same outlet as well, stating, “I haven’t heard anything about that. I’m a big fan of the IP, and I’m a big fan of HBO, but nobody has called me up about it.” As of now, the casting of Voldemort remains one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the new adaptation.
