Karl Urban joins the rest of the cast to perform a hilarious dance on Mortal Kombat‘s theme song on social media. It was seemingly a promotional video for the sequel, which is about to hit the theaters on May 8, 2026.

Mortal Kombat 2 cast members dance to movie’s theme music

Mortal Kombat II cast opted for a unique way of promoting the film as they all vibed and danced to the film’s theme song in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter). The texts on the screen read, “POV: your theme song starts playing.” The song played in the background was Techno Syndrome by The Immortals. In the caption, the page encouraged fans to purchase the tickets now in theaters and IMAX as the movie’s release approaches.

In a recent conversation with The AU Review, director Simon McQuoid acknowledged the dense lore across the games and shared how he balances what to explain and what to leave for fans. “It was really deciding what the key elements were that did two things at once. I analyzed elements of the Mortal Kombat history and lore, and had to make sure that it’s clear that this won’t trip anyone up if you haven’t seen it, whilst giving the fans what they were hoping for. Like I said about the character journeys, they’re all clear, truthful human journeys,” he elaborated.

The martial arts fantasy movie centers on Johnny Cage joining the champions of Earthrealm to overthrow the rule of  Shao Kahn. This is because Kahn continues to threaten the realm and its defenders’ existence. The cast members include Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Sophia Xu, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tati Gabrielle, and Lewis Tan, among many others.
