Hocus Pocus 3 Update Reveals Returning Cast Members for Disney Movie
Disney’s Hocus Pocus 3 has finally received an exciting new update about the long-in-development project’s current status, revealing that the creative team has already secured the return of three central characters. This comes nearly four years after the successful Disney+ debut of Hocus Pocus 2, which received three Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Television Movie.
Who is returning for Hocus Pocus 3?
Per Deadline, franchise stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy have officially signed on to reprise their fan-favorite roles as the Sanderson sisters in Hocus Pocus 3. The third installment was actually first announced by former Disney executive Sean Bailey in 2023. However, after Bailey left the company in 2024, development on the next movie was put on hold.
The third installment of the iconic horror comedy film franchise will be produced by Disney Live Action Studios, with EVP of Production Jessica Virtue overseeing the project. According to the outlet, Disney is reportedly planning to give the next Hocus Pocus movie a theatrical release. However, nothing has been confirmed yet because the project is still in early development.
Hocus Pocus 2 ended with Midler’s Winnifred realizing that her sisters are far more important to her than becoming an all-powerful witch. She ultimately gave up her powers in hopes of rejoining her beloved sisters, Sarah (Parker) and Mary (Najimy), after they faded away due to the effects of reciting a forbidden spell. Further details about Hocus Pocus 3’s plot, director, and new characters are still under wraps.
Disney+’s 2022 sequel was directed by Anne Fletcher, with Jen D’Angelo writing the screenplay. The movie also starred Doug Jones, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belisa Escobedo, Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, and Sam Richardson. It currently holds an approval rating of 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 156 reviews.
