Karl Urban Proves He’s the Perfect Johnny Cage With Just 1 Move
The Boys star Karl Urban will soon be seen on the big screen as the iconic Johnny Cage from the Mortal Kombat franchise, and it seems that he has earned his place as the iconic character by actually doing one of Cage’s famed moves. In an interview, Urban broke down the physically daunting aspects of filming Mortal Kombat II and the one difficult stunt that he actually performed.
Karl Urban actually did Johnny Cage’s trademark split in Mortal Kombat II
During an interview with ComicBook, Karl Urban, who is best known for his role as Billy Butcher in The Boys, revealed that he did Johnny Cage’s trademark split in the film by himself.
When asked if there was movie magic involved in Urban nailing the iconic move from the Mortal Kombat franchise, he said he did do the splits himself and did not get injured in the process.
“This is a lot of things going on here, pal, but I, I will say I was not injured. Almost injured. Yeah, okay, I did I did do the splits,” Urban said during the interview.
Urban had to do the split to perform Johnny Cage’s Nut Punch (also known as the Nut Cracker), a famous move from the franchise that sees Cage drop low and hit his opponent in a vulnerable area.
Karl Urban, in the same interview, revealed how physically daunting this role was.
“I think my biggest concern was the challenge,” the actor said, “You know, and this was, without a doubt, the most difficult physical challenge that I’ve ever encountered in making a movie. And I’ve made a few. But this, the skill set required, it was like. And starting from scratch, starting with just learning how to move, agility, doing speed drills, then, you know, learning movement and form and style. It’s just everything is so specific, and it’s not like a brawl where you can just sort of, you know, sort of, you know, push your way through it.”
Mortal Kombat II premieres on May 8, 2026, in theatres.
