Daredevil’s Charlie Cox Gives His Verdict on Ben Affleck’s Version
Charlie Cox recently shared his thoughts on Ben Affleck’s version of Daredevil. Cox now plays Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Daredevil: Born Again, but during a recent interview, he looked back at the earlier 2003 movie starring Affleck.
Charlie Cox loves Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, answers what went wrong
The conversation turned both serious and funny at different moments. Cox praised Affleck several times while also explaining what he believed did not work in the movie. Speaking with Josh Horowitz, Cox was asked directly about Affleck’s 2003 version of Daredevil.
The 43-year-old responded, “I like it. I’m not saying I like him. I’m a massive Ben Affleck fan. Yeah. And I think he’s awesome and tremendous.” He sounded genuine while talking about Affleck. Then the conversation shifted toward the movie itself.
When Cox started giving his opinion about the film, he paused and laughed during the answer. Horowitz noticed the reaction and asked, “Your voice cracked there. What just happened?” Cox then explained what he believed happened with the movie.
“I think what happened with that movie is two things. CGI was invented, and the next day they were like, ‘Let’s make a movie with it,'” he said while laughing. Cox continued by saying, “And so they’re a little premature with the CGI, and also they tried to get the entire Daredevil anthology into a two-hour movie.”
He still pointed out that some moments from the film remained memorable. “There’s moments in it that are iconic. And I love Ben Affleck,” he added. Cox also shared a Comic-Con story connected to Affleck’s Daredevil role.
According to Cox, fans kept bringing him photographs from the 2003 movie to sign during one event. “I did have a thing where I went to one of these comic cons where you do signings, and someone came up to me and asked me to sign the Ben Affleck costume,” he explained.
At first, Cox thought fans were joking. But then it kept happening repeatedly during the event. He later realized the convention had accidentally placed his photo in front of the wrong line, leading fans with Affleck photos toward him instead.
“Then I realized the show had incorrectly put my photograph at the front of my line, and so people have signed Ben Affleck photographs by me,” he said. Currently, Cox is fully established as Daredevil inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Daredevil: Born Again.
Daredevil: Born Again seasons 1 and 2 are available for streaming on Disney+.
