Anthony Mackie’s Gruesome Horror Movie To Disappear From Netflix Soon

Netflix is delisting an Anthony Mackie-led 2020 psychological thriller from its library later this month. Directed by the producers of Daredevil: Born Again, the film follows two paramedics who respond to a series of deaths caused by a strange new designer drug.

Synchronic leaves Netflix in May

Synchronic will not be a part of Netflix’s catalog from Monday, May 25, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).

The story focuses on two paramedics, Steve and Dennis. While responding to a series of deaths, they learn that it was caused by a new designer drug named Synchronic. After getting stung by a contaminated needle, Steve develops cancer in his pineal gland.

Out of desperation to save his life, Steve locates the maker of the drug, who reveals that Synchronic distorts users’ perception of time, leading to strange incidents. To uncover the truth behind it, Steve starts taking the drug himself, causing conflict with his partner.

Aaron Moorhead co-directed Synchronic with Justin Benson, who also wrote the script. The film shares continuity with Benson’s previous films, Resolution (2012) and The Endless (2017). The pair directed all three films, which have since developed a cult following.

Synchronic’s cast features Anthony Mackie as Steve, Jamie Dornan as Dennis, Ally Ioannides as Brianna, and Katie Aselton as Tara, among others.

The film was produced through independent production studios, XYZ Films, Patriot Pictures, and Rustic Films. It was also released by an independent company, Well Go USA Entertainment, premiering at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. It later arrived in theaters on October 23, 2020.

Upon release, Synchronic received a positive reception from both audience and critics, who praised the film for its blend of horror and mind-bending sci-fi elements. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has a Tomatometer score of 79% and a Popcornmeter score of 76%. On Metacritic, it has a weighted average critic score of 64. And in terms of its box office performance, the film made over $1.4 million globally (via Box Office Mojo).
