Jordan Peele’s Lowest RT Movie as Director Sets Netflix Streaming Date

Jordan Peele‘s third directorial venture, a 2022 sci-fi horror, is scheduled to arrive on Netflix very soon. Despite high ratings on review-aggregator sites, the film showcases the lowest score among all his directorial titles. Nonetheless, it was a major success for the comedian.

Nope begins streaming on Netflix in May

Netflix is adding Jordan Peele’s Nope to its library on Monday, May 18th, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).

The film centers on two siblings, OJ and Emerald Haywood, who run a horse ranch in Agua Dulce, California. After their father dies in a bizarre accident involving objects falling from the sky, they begin noticing strange occurrences around their property. Upon investigation, they learn that they might be dealing with otherworldly forces. Instead of fleeing, the siblings decide to record evidence and use it to make money.

Peele wrote and directed Nope. He also co-produced it through his production company, Monkeypaw Productions. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures served as the other production studio. The film’s cast features Daniel Kaluuya as OJ, Keke Palmer as Emerald, Steven Yeun as Jupe, and Wrenn Schmidt as Amber, among others.

Notably, the film’s scope is much larger than Peele’s first two films. During an interview with Fandango, the comedian said that he wanted to create a spectacle. “I wrote it in a time when we were a little bit worried about the future of cinema. So the first thing I knew is I wanted to create a spectacle. I wanted to create something that the audience would have to come see,” he explained.

Released on July 22, 2022, Nope received a positive reception from the critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a Tomatometer score of 83%. In contrast, Jordan Peele’s Get Out has 98%, and US has 93%. Nonetheless, the score is still very much in favor of the film. Meanwhile, the audience appeared less impressed, resulting in an average score of 69%.

As per Deadline, Nope had a budget of $68 million—the highest among the Oscar-winning director’s three films. By the end of its theatrical run, the film made roughly $171.2 million from global markets.
