Longlegs 2 Sets Release Date for Nicolas Cage Sequel Movie
Paramount Pictures has officially carved out a release date for one of the most anticipated horror follow-ups in recent memory. The studio confirmed that the next one in the Longlegs universe will release sooner than expected. This transforms what was once a surprise announcement into a full-fledged franchise play, with Nicolas Cage and filmmaker Osgood Perkins both returning to the nightmare they built together.
Untitled Longlegs sequel gets early 2028 release date
Longlegs 2 will release on January 14, 2028. The project brings filmmaker Osgood Perkins back to write and direct, with Nicolas Cage reprising his role. Paramount described the movie not as a direct sequel but as a story set within the Longlegs universe, a distinction that leaves the narrative scope deliberately open-ended.
The studio’s involvement marks a shift, as Neon distributed the original film, which grossed $128 million globally against a budget of under $10 million. But when plans for Longlegs 2 materialized, the indie distributor stepped aside. The Hollywood Reporter’s sources claimed that Neon found the project’s budget beyond its usual range, prompting Paramount to acquire the rights. Horror remains a stated priority at Paramount, and the studio has grabbed it; we now have a release date once the deal is closed.
Perkins directed the 2024 original, which starred Maika Monroe as an FBI agent investigating a cluster of murder-suicides tied to a serial killer called Longlegs, played by Cage. The R-rated film became a word-of-mouth phenomenon, aided by a Neon marketing campaign that industry observers later cited as a template for building anticipation in the horror genre. Perkins’ work on the film elevated his resume considerably, getting him recognition as a name-brand horror director almost overnight.
Producers on the untitled project include Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Perkins, Chris Ferguson, Dave Caplan, and Cage. The producing team reunites people from the first movie, too, as Nicolas Cage will both star and produce Longlegs 2.
