Tangled’s Live-Action Cast Should Excite Disney Fans
Disney’s upcoming Tangled live-action movie is one of the most anticipated live-action films Disney has produced, and with another new name joining the film’s cast, fans should be excited about the direction that Disney is going with for the upcoming movie.
Tangled’s live-action cast shows Disney is making smart choices
For those unaware, Tangled’s live-action cast is set to be led by Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, who will play the roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively. The two up-and-coming actors are relatively new to the world of Hollywood, with Croft’s biggest role coming in Netflix’s True Spirit movie, while Manheim’s most recognizable roles have come from the Disney film franchise Zombies. The cast of Tangled’s live-action adaptation also includes Kathryn Hahn playing the role of Mother Gothel, and most recently, Diego Luna playing an as-of-yet unannounced role.
The upcoming live-action film is one that has a lot riding on it. Not only has Disney’s releases of live-action adaptations been extremely hit or miss, but fans are wary of them in general. While films like the Lilo & Stitch live-action movie have done extremely well, movies like Snow White, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast have all been criticized as feeling unnecessary in one way or another. However, with Tangled, it seems like Disney is finally making some of the right choices.
Unlike past films, which has seen Disney make sure every role is played by a mega star or accomplished name in Hollywood, it seems like they’re pivoting away this time. Both Rapunzel and Flynn are being played by relatively unknown stars, which will allow them to not only immerse themselves more in the role, but be seen as audiences as the characters they are actually playing, and not so much as just themselves.
Likewise, the film is still retaining several high-profile names for other roles, allowing the movie to still have a major draw when it comes to fans, but without compromising its main stars to be seen as simple big name opportunities. The production and development of the Tangled live-action movie has also faced its fair share of ups and downs. Following the release of Snow White, and the underperformance it had at the box office, Tangled was paused indefinitely. However, after Lilo & Stitch had an successful release, development began again. This show’s Disney is not only confident in the project, but might have learned a thing or two following the release of Snow White.
