HBO Max Adds Patrick Wilson Horror Movie in Beloved Franchise Today
HBO Max expands its movie library with the addition of one of Blumhouse’s blockbuster horror movies, which was led by Golden Globe nominee Patrick Wilson. As of today, 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door is now officially available to stream on HBO Max.
What do we know about Patrick Wilson’s Insidious: The Red Door movie?
Insidious: The Red Door was the fifth installment of the popular horror franchise created by Leigh Whannell and James Wan. Wilson directed the supernatural horror film, which served as his feature directorial debut. The latest sequel is set a decade after the events of 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2, which ended with Josh and Dalton deciding to suppress their memories to prevent them from astral projecting and going into The Further ever again.
Besides Wilson, the movie also featured the return of Ty Simpkins as Dalton Lambert, Rose Byrne as Renai Lambert, Andrew Astor as Foster Lambert, Lin Shaye as Elise, Whannell as Specs, and Angus Sampson as Tucker. They were joined by Sinclair Daniel, Hiam Abbass, Juliana Davies, Steve Coulter, Peter Dager, Justin Sturgis, Joseph Bishara, David Call, and Dagmara Domińczyk.
“In the film, the original cast from the horror franchise is back for the final chapter of the Lambert family’s terrifying saga. To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh and a college-aged Dalton must go deeper into The Further than ever before, facing their family’s dark past and a host of new and more horrifying terrors that lurk behind the red door,” reads the official synopsis.
Insidious: The Red Door was written by Scott Teems, based on a story from Whannell and Jason Blum. This was the first time in the franchise that Whannell didn’t write the screenplay. It was produced by Blum, Whannell, Wan, and Oren Peli. During its theatrical run, it grossed over $189 million worldwide, making it the popular franchise’s highest-grossing installment. On August 21, 2026, Blumhouse will be releasing a new Insidious sequel, Insidious: Out of the Further, which will once again star Lin Shaye.
