Jason Momoa’s DC Movie Finds New Streaming Home at Prime Video

A DC film starring Jason Momoa has found a new streaming home in Amazon Prime Video. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will swim to the OTT platform later this month alongside other upcoming movie and television titles, helping expand the streamer’s offerings. At the time of its theatrical release, it became a modest box office success.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom starts streaming on Prime Video in May

The Jason Momoa-led film will become available on the streaming giant’s catalog starting May 27, 2026. It is a sequel to 2018’s Aquaman and serves as the final installment of the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

The arrival of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on Amazon Prime Video comes ahead of Momoa’s highly anticipated return to DC in next month’s Supergirl, where he will essay Lobo.

The film takes place four years after its predecessor. Arthur Curry, AKA Aquaman has since become the King of Atlantis, but also spends considerable time on land. He has also married Mera and they have a son, Arthur Jr. However, their peace is disturbed when Black Manta enters the scene.

Manta seeks to kill Aquaman’s family and also overheat the world out of vengeance for his father’s death at the latter’s hands. To defend his underwater kingdom from Manta’s danger and also find the lost seventh kingdom of the seas, Aquaman joins forces with his half-brother, Orm.

The film originally premiered at The Grove on December 19, 2023. It later hit theaters across the United States three days later, on December 22. Following its release, the movie reportedly grossed $440.2 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo). This is much lower than the original’s worldwide gross of approximately $1.15 billion.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom also garnered primarily negative critical reception. This is reflected in its rotten 33% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, lower than the first’s 66% critics score.

James Wan directed the 2023 sequel, reprising his role from the first film. He also co-wrote the story with Momoa, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett. Moreover, Johnson-McGoldrick wrote the screenplay.

In addition to Jason Momoa, the movie features Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Amber Heard, and Nicole Kidman, among others.
