A new update on Mel Gibson’s sequels to The Passion of the Christ reports significant progress on the projects. The two films, The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One and The Resurrection of the Christ: Part Two, have been years in development, and the latest update shows that the project is now moving closer to release, sparking anticipation among fans.

The Resurrection of the Christ Parts 1 and 2 get huge update

The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One and The Resurrection of the Christ: Part Two have reached a major milestone, with Mel Gibson officially wrapping production on the long-awaited sequel to The Passion of the Christ. The project, which has been in development for years amid delays and updates, is now moving toward its scheduled release.

Filming concluded in Italy, with recent videos confirming that shooting has been completed. The release strategy has been set for 2027, with Part One scheduled for March 26 and Part Two for May 6. The first part will release on Good Friday and the second on Ascension Day.

The sequel introduces a new cast instead of bringing back actors from the original film. Jaakko Ohtonen will portray Jesus, while Mariela Garriga has been cast as Mary Magdalene. Pier Luigi Pasino will play Peter, Kasia Smutniak will appear as Mary, and Riccardo Scamarcio has been cast as Pontius Pilate. Meanwhile, Rupert Everett will portray Abraham.

Gibson has indicated that the sequel will not follow a straightforward continuation. He previously described parts of the film as “some crazy stuff.” The director added, “I think in order to tell the story properly, you have to really start with the fall of the angels, which means you’re in another place, you’re in another realm. You need to go to hell.”

Further details are expected to surface as the film approaches its release.
