Anne Hathaway’s Devil Wears Prada Role Almost Went to This Rom-Com Actress
Anne Hathaway may now be closely associated with the role of Andrea “Andy” Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada series. However, she was not always the first choice for the part, as several actresses were considered before her casting. Recently, one of them, Kate Hudson, who was offered the role before Hathaway signed on, revealed why she couldn’t accept it.
Kate Hudson reveals why she passed on The Devil Wears Prada role
Kate Hudson revealed that multiple factors, including conversations and scheduling problems, led to her turning down the role of Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada.
On The Drew Barrymore Show, the host asked the Running Point star if she had decided not to do the 2006 film. The actress clarified, “It wasn’t that I decided not to. It was like one of those things. There was like scheduling stuff. There was in conversation, and there was all these happening and I decided yes, not to.”
However, the 47-year-old actress wasn’t really upset about losing out on the opportunity. She said everything worked out the way it was supposed to. Hudson then praised Anne Hathaway’s performance as Sachs, remarking she “[shone] like the bright star she is.”
Interestingly, Hudson wound up working together with Hathaway in Bride Wars three years later. Barrymore brought this up, noting was one of her “all-time favorite” movies.
This isn’t the first time Hudson has addressed the matter of losing out on the chance to star in the David Frankel-helmed film. While speaking with Capital FM last year, she expressed regret for not adjusting her schedule to sign on to the movie. She admitted, “That was a bad call,” before revealing it boiled down to timing.
“It was one of those things where I couldn’t do it,” the two-time Academy Award nominee elaborated. “And I should’ve made it happen, and I didn’t.”
She continued, saying The Devil Wears Prada was one of the films where losing out on the chance to appear frustrated her. Hudson continued, “But again, everything happens for a reason. There’s a reason for that. That was a real like, ‘I should’ve made that work.'” The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently playing in theaters.
