Supergirl Runtime Confirmed by Director & Superman Fans Won’t Be Happy

The DCU’s next superhero entry is keeping things lean, and Superman fans might need to adjust their expectations. Director Craig Gillespie revealed a runtime detail for Supergirl that sets Milly Alcock’s solo outing apart from its Kryptonian predecessor in more ways than one.

Supergirl runtime is around 1 hour 50 minutes

Director Craig Gillespie has confirmed the runtime for Supergirl n a new interview with Collider. The filmmaker revealed the DCU film will clock in at approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes with credits. The runtime had previously been rumored to sit around 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Gillespie shared his excitement about the project’s near-completion during the conversation. “I feel really great about it. I’m very excited for everybody to see it,” Gillespie said. He added that the team is in the “final stages getting all the effects done” and completing the final sound mix this week. The director stated they are “basically at the finish line” ahead of the film’s June 26 release.

The confirmed runtime makes Supergirl the shortest film in James Gunn’s DCU so far. David Corenswet’s Superman ran 2 hours and 10 minutes, putting Milly Alcock’s solo outing about 20 minutes shorter. Whether Supergirl keeps that distinction depends on the runtime for Clayface, arriving October 23.

Gillespie also addressed Jason Momoa’s role as Lobo in the film. He praised Momoa’s presence on set, noting the actor “came in about 2 months in” during production. “When you see those two go at it in a scene together, it’s just electric,” Gillespie said about Alcock and Momoa’s dynamic. He confirmed that Lobo “stays very true to the comic book” in the adaptation.

The director declined to reveal any details about a possible post-credits scene. “I can’t tease that, sorry,” Gillespie said when pressed on the topic. Ana Nogueira wrote the screenplay, adapting Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s eight-issue comic run from 2021 to 2022. Supergirl arrives in theaters on June 26.
