Original World War Z Star Finally Has an Answer on Sequel

An original World War Z star finally weighed in on the long-awaited franchise follow-up after Paramount reignited the zombie blockbuster at CinemaCon 2026. The actor shared honest thoughts on the sequel’s rocky journey and whether a return to the series could be on the table.

World War Z’s Mireille Enos talks Paramount’s sequel

Mireille Enos, who played Karin in the original World War Z, has responded to Paramount’s recent announcement of a new film in the franchise, according to Screen Rant. The studio confirmed the new World War Z movie during its CinemaCon 2026 presentation in mid-April, though no director, writer, cast or release date has been attached to the project yet.

Enos spoke with Screen Rant while promoting For All Mankind season 5 and addressed the long road to a follow-up film. She humorously acknowledged that Paramount “have been saying it for 15 years” and noted that “different versions” of the script have existed over the years. The Emmy nominee expressed clear enthusiasm about the prospect of returning.

“I hope” the new movie happens, Enos said, adding that she thinks a reunion with Brad Pitt “would be incredible.” She clarified that “the truth” is she currently has no insight into the new film’s plans. “The past conversations about a second World War Z did include my character, but I have no official information at this time,” Enos confirmed.

The original 2013 film became a blockbuster hit and prompted immediate sequel discussions. Paramount announced David Fincher as director in mid-2017 with Pitt set to return as producer and star. The studio ultimately cancelled that version in early 2019. Enos’ comments mark the first confirmation that prior sequel scripts included her character alongside Pitt’s Gerry.

Paramount unveiled the new World War Z project among several franchise announcements at CinemaCon 2026. The studio also confirmed Top Gun 3 with Tom Cruise and Taylor Sheridan’s Call of Duty adaptation. The latter targets a June 2028 release. Pitt reportedly remains involved as a producer on the new film. That role could open the door for Enos to reprise her character in a different capacity.
