The Devil Wears Prada 2 Final Box Office Predictions Are All Over The Place
Like Andy Sachs, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has very large shoes to fill, but it’s already doing so in style. The latest box office forecasts for the much-anticipated sequel to the original 2006 comedy are fantastic as we head toward the film’s Friday release on May 1 in the United States. We’ve reported on the movie’s ever-growing box office predictions several times in the past, and experts have been impressed with its momentum over the month of April. Prada 2 looks to be hitting the theatrical runway with a tremendous amount of hype that could help it break records in 2026.
Prada 2 could set records for its domestic opener at the box office
The most optimistic box office projection for The Devil Wears Prada 2 has it earning $95 million to $105 million through its domestic opening weekend from May 1 to May 3. This is the highest range for the sequel thus far.
This updated prediction comes from BoxOffice Pro, which notes that the Disney and 20th Century Studios production has had massive pre-sales. In fact, the report say it could be “lowballing this outlook,” saying that “it could finish the year as one of the highest-grossing titles domestically.” Indeed, if Prada 2 is able to cross the $100 million mark in its domestic opener, the sequel would set a new record for a non-animated film this year. The highest domestic openers so far in 2026 for a non-animated film include Project Hail Mary ($80.5 million), Michael ($97.2 million), and Scream 7 ($63 million).
In addition, the report highlights the triumphant reunion for Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and Anne Hathaway, which is something fans of the first movie have wanted to see for two decades at this point. It notes how well the original film performed on the global stage ($201 million, or about 62% of its entire box office haul) and is hopeful that this nostalgia-driven sequel will be able to match that percentage.
Several other projections for The Devil Wears Prada 2 are more conservative. Deadline believes that the film will have a domestic start of $73 million to $80 million and a worldwide opening of $180 million. Despite these lower numbers, it also notes that domestic presales for the sequel are at $20 million, which is higher than those for Dune: Part Two and Project Hail Mary. Its main concern is that female-driven movies tend to perform much better at the beginning of its run, which for Prada 2 will be helped this week by international Labor Day on May 1 and next week by Mother’s Day on May 10.
Meanwhile, BoxOfficeTheory’s projections for the film’s domestic start have landed in the middle of the two with a range of $70 million to $95 million. This forecast is bolstered by the film being featured in over 1,000 premium format theaters. It compares Prada 2 to similar tentpoles like Wicked and It Ends With Us, and believes that the movie’s ensemble cast, especially the presence of Meryl Streep, could catch the eye of casual audiences. It has some concern, though, that Michael whose audience is also female-driven could sap some of its momentum as the biopic heads toward its second week.
As of April 30, the critics rating for The Devil Wears Prada 2 stands at a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes (which is slightly higher than what was reported yesterday). ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim was not as impressed with the sequel in his review, though reviews in general have called it fun and enjoyable, with several critics highlighting the performances from Hathaway and Streep.
Lady Gaga, who is featured in the film, and Doechii released the movie single called “RUNWAY” on April 27, and the music video is topping the charts on YouTube with over 5 million views.
