What’s the new update for The Blair Witch Project reboot?
The studio has officially confirmed that up-and-coming horror director Dylan Clark has been tapped to helm the new The Blair Witch Project movie. His involvement was actually first reported nearly a month ago. He is also currently rewriting the screenplay, which was originally written by Chris Devlin. Besides the reboot, Clark is also set to direct Universal Pictures’ Portrait of God, based on his 2022 viral horror short, which will be produced by Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele.
In addition, it has been announced that original stars from the 1999 movie, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, have signed on to the upcoming reboot as executive producers. They will be joining the original filmmakers, Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale, who have already boarded the reboot as executive producers. According to Lionsgate, their involvement is vital to bringing the full mythology and legacy of the franchise to a new generation of storytelling.
The project is produced by Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse, and Roy Lee, alongside Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer. Executive producers are Steven Schneider, Michael Clear, and Judson Scott, with Atomic Monster’s Alayna Glasthal overseeing for the company. Meanwhile, Scott O’Brien and Pavan Kalidindi have also been enlisted to oversee the project for Lionsgate.
The original film centered around a group of students making a documentary on the spooky folklore of Burkittsville, Maryland. Following its release, the movie garnered critical and commercial success, grossing around $248 million worldwide against a reported budget of less than $1 million.
