Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar Winner To Stream on Prime Video After HBO Max
A 2025 dark comedy starring an ensemble cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, is arriving on Prime Video very soon. After receiving universal acclaim, the film became one of the most Oscar-nominated films with a staggering 13 nominations and won Best Picture at the 2026 Oscars.
One Battle After Another arrives on Prime Video in May
One Battle After Another will be available to stream on Prime Video from Saturday, May 23, 2026. This is in addition to its availability on HBO Max since December 2025. So, viewers who didn’t have an HBO Max subscription can now watch it on Prime Video.
The film centers on Bob, a former revolutionary who now lives off-grid in paranoia with his teenage daughter Willa. Although it has been 16 years since he left his radical life behind, his past catches up to him when his daughter goes missing, and a dangerous old enemy resurfaces. Desperate to save Willa, Bob falls back into the world of violence.
One Battle After Another is loosely based on Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland. Paul Thomas Anderson wrote and directed the film. He also co-produced it alongside Adam Somner and Sara Murphy.
While discussing the film with Steven Spielberg, Anderson said he struggled for years to adapt the book because he loved it so much. He explained that to make a good adaptation, one has to be really “rough” on the book. After years of adding some of his own ideas and keeping specific elements from the source material, he finally had a script for One Battle After Another.
The film’s cast features Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob, Sean Penn as Col. Steven J. Lockjaw, Benicio del Toro as Sergio St. Carlos, Teyana Taylor as Perfidia, and Chase Infiniti as Willa, among others.
The film debuted in theaters worldwide on September 26, 2025. Both critics and moviegoers had a positive reception, resulting in high ratings on review-aggregator sites. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 94% Tomatometer score and a 35% Popcornmeter score. Meanwhile, Metacritic shows a weighted average critic score of 95. On the other hand, One Battle After Another ended its theatrical run, earning $212.9 million globally against a $140 million budget.
