Quentin Tarantino’s Classic Brad Pitt Thriller Is Coming to Netflix Soon

The classic dark comedy True Romance, featuring stars like Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, and Brad Pitt, will soon be added to Netflix’s streaming library. Despite being written by Quentin Tarantino, the R-rated film was a box office failure on release. However, it has since reached a broader audience, earning a strong cult following.

True Romance to stream on Netflix next month

Netflix is bringing the 1993 classic True Romance to its platform on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).

Top Gun director Tony Scott helmed the film, while the Kill Bill director co-wrote the film’s screenplay with Roger Avary. This marked the second time Tarantino and Avary collaborated and followed the success of Reservoir Dogs. They worked together again later that year on Killing Zoe, and reunited once more for the highly acclaimed Pulp Fiction in 1994.

True Romance follows Clarence Worley, an avid Elvis Presley fan, and Alabama Whitman, a call girl. Although she was hired by his boss to sleep with him, Alabama ultimately falls in love with Clarence and the two marry. But before they skip town, Clarence kills Alabama’s boss and takes a suitcase, believing it is hers. However, they soon learn that the bag is full of drugs, and both the mob and the police are searching for it.

The film features an ensemble cast that includes Brad Pitt as Floyd, Christian Slater as Clarence, Patricia Arquette as Alabama, Val Kilmer as Elvis, Dennis Hopper as Clifford, Gary Oldman as Drexl, Christopher Walken as Vincenzo, and Samuel L. Jackson as Big Don.

Warner Bros., the film’s distributor, released True Romance on September 10, 1993. It reportedly cost the studio $12.5 million to make, but the film did not perform well at the box office. By the end of its theatrical run, it managed to earn approximately $12.6 million.

However, over the years, the film became considered as one of Quentin Tarantino’s classics and gained cult status. It currently boasts a 93% approval rating from both critics and users on Rotten Tomatoes.
