Zoe Saldaña’s Movie Opposite Pop Icon Is Leaving Netflix

A road trip comedy, starring Zoe Saldaña and a global pop icon, will be exiting Netflix’s library soon. Written by the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, the film was a commercial success despite unfavorable ratings on review-aggregator sites.

Crossroads leaves Netflix in May

2002’s Crossroads will exit Netflix on Thursday, May 21, 2026, per What’s on Netflix.

The film stars Zoe Saldaña as Kit, Britney Spears as Lucy, Taryn Manning as Mimi, Anson Mount as Ben, Kim Cattrall as Caroline, Justin Long as Henry, and Dan Aykroyd as Pete.

Meanwhile, Tamra Davis directed the film, based on a story by Shonda Rhimes. Reportedly, the “Toxic” singer and her team came up with the premise since she wanted to transition into acting. Rhymes later expanded the idea into a feature-length script.

Crossroads centers on three childhood friends—Lucy, Kit, and Mimi—who reunite after years of drifting apart. On the night of their high school graduation, they dig up the “wish box” they buried as kids and impulsively decide to go on a road trip to fulfill their wishes. They are also joined by Mimi’s friend, Ben.

It was made on a budget of $12 million. Paramount Pictures handled the film’s distribution in the United States, while Summit Entertainment handled it overseas. The film arrived in theaters on February 15, 2002.

Upon release, the film was panned by both the audience and critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a mere 15% critic approval score and a 40% user score. Similarly, it has a weighted average critic score of 27 on Metacritic. However, the audience score is higher at 6.9.

Nonetheless, Crossroads made over $61.3 million globally, which, when compared to its modest budget, makes the film a financial success. Furthermore, Britney Spears received nominations for her acting debut at several award events.
