Dracula’s Cynthia Erivo Walks off Stage After Catching Audience Member Filming

Wicked star Cynthia Erivo brought a live performance of Dracula to an abrupt stop after she caught an audience member filming. Erivo reportedly stopped the play at around an hour mark after seeing that the performance was being filmed. A source revealed that the person filming was allegedly kicked out of the performance.

Cynthia Ervio stops Dracula performance due to illegal filming fiasco

Cynthia Erivo halted her solo West End show of Dracula last night after catching an audience member filming the performance. The three-time Oscar nominee and Tony, Emmy, and Grammy award-winner was in the midst of performing when she noticed one of the attendees filming her.

Erivo, who was playing all 23 characters in the play, brought her performance to an abrupt stop after seeing this. According to Metro, Erivo stopped the show at around the hour mark.

Metro also reported that the audience member who was filming between the play was “kicked out” by security. Erivo reportedly returned to the performance after a ten-minute break and finished her show.

Phone usage during live performances is becoming increasingly common, and many performers have cited this as a problem.

Stage icon Patti LuPone, for instance, has been vocal about this problem for years now. She infamously confiscated an audience member’s phone after seeing them using it during a performance in 2015. Gemma Arterton also admitted to doing something similar when she caught a patron filming her while she was performing in the West End musical adaptation of Made In Dagenham.

Lesley Manville spoke about phone usage in theaters just a month ago on Radio 4. “It’s theater – let’s preserve it!” she said (via The Independent). “We are all in this room, we are telling you a story, you’re listening – clap or don’t clap, but don’t just stick your phone in our face. I find it insulting.”

Cynthia Erivo will soon be seen in Children of Blood and Bone.
