Caine Teaser Video Previews Donnie Yen’s John Wick Spin-off Movie

Lionsgate has shared the first teaser video for Caine, its second John Wick spin-off movie, revolving around Donnie Yen‘s fan-favorite character from John Wick: Chapter 4. This comes nearly a year after the blockbuster franchise’s first spin-off film, Ballerina, was first released in theaters, where it grossed over $137 million worldwide.

What happens in the Caine teaser video?

The video features the titular blind assassin’s signature weapon, a sword hidden within his walking stick, while also showing off the film’s official title logo. The teaser also confirmed that production on the upcoming action thriller movie has indeed officially started. Filming will take place in Europe and Hong Kong.

In addition to leading the cast, Yen is also directing and executive producing the new John Wick spin-off movie. This marks the acclaimed martial artist and actor’s first time directing an English-language feature. Also returning for the spin-off is John Wick 4 fan-favorite Rina Sawayama as she reprises Akira. At the moment, further details about the movie’s plot are still under wraps.

The screenplay for Caine is written by Mattson Tomlin, based on a previous draft by Robert Askins. The film is produced by John Wick director Chad Stahelski for 87Eleven Entertainment, along with franchise producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee for Thunder Road.

Caine was last seen at the end of the 2023 movie, where he returned to Paris in hopes of reuniting with his daughter after the High Table finally granted him his freedom. However, the reunion might be short-lived with the sudden reappearance of Akira, who’s looking to get her revenge against the blind assassin for the death of her father.
