Fired Star Wars Actor Had a ‘Really Nice’ Conversation With Lucasfilm
The galaxy far, far away may not be done with one of its most controversial exits. A fired Star Wars actor has revealed details of a “really nice” sit-down with two of Lucasfilm’s top creatives. The conversation hints at a thaw years in the making.
Gina Carano on the conversation she had with Star Wars’ Dave Filoni
Gina Carano has confirmed she recently spoke with Lucasfilm leadership over Zoom. The actor shared the news during a sit-down interview with sports journalist Ariel Helwani. The conversation reportedly took place shortly after her legal settlement with Disney was reached.
“I’ve already had a conversation with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau,” Carano said. “We got onto a Zoom call. It was really nice. Dave is taking over as CEO of Star Wars. We didn’t miss a beat. Jon Favreau got on Zoom and was really funny. He was like so; where did we leave off?”
Carano portrayed Cara Dune across the first two seasons of The Mandalorian. Lucasfilm dropped her from the show in 2021 following controversial social media posts. Those posts compared the persecution of Jewish people in Nazi Germany to being a modern-day Republican.
The studio said at the time that there were “no plans” for her future employment. Lucasfilm also called her posts “abhorrent and unacceptable.” A #FireGinaCarano campaign emerged in the lead-up to her firing.
Carano filed a lawsuit against Disney in 2024, funded in part by Elon Musk. Both parties reached a settlement in 2025. A Disney representative told Variety afterwards, “With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
Carano stopped short of confirming a return to Star Wars during the Helwani interview. Her most notable role since leaving The Mandalorian has been the 2022 film Terror on the Prairie. She fights Ronda Rousey on May 16, while Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will hit theatres on May 22, 2026.
