James Gunn Gives Update on Mister Miracle, Man of Tomorrow Filming, & More DCU Projects

James Gunn has shared some new insights about the future of the DCU.

Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU officially kicked off at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos show. That was followed by Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 in 2025, while Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface are all scheduled to arrive this year.

Beyond that, Man of Tomorrow, which is a follow-up to Superman, has been dated for 2027. There are several other DCU projects that are also in the works, though none of them have release dates at this time.

What did James Gunn say about the DCU’s future?

On Threads, Gunn recently said that The Authority movie wasn’t going to happen anytime in the near future. He did, however, provide hope for both Booster Gold and Paradise Lost, as both DC projects remain in development at this time.

In the comments, Gunn confirmed that he and Safran already have a good idea as to what the next DCU movie will be after Man of Tomorrow. When asked why it’s taking “so long” to release the DCU projects that were initially announced in 2023, Gunn said that they’re currently keeping a similar pace to “95% of scripts and shows that get made.”

More substantially, Gunn did comment on Creature Commandos Season 2 and the animated Mister Miracle show that is in the works.

“Good,” he said when asked about the script for both projects. “I watched animatics for both this weekend.”

Finally, when asked how Man of Tomorrow’s production has gone thus far, Gunn said, “I’m having a blast.”

Man of Tomorrow is dated for July 9, 2027. Before that, Supergirl arrives on June 26, 2026, followed by Clayface on October 23, 2026. Lanterns does not yet have an official premiere date, though it is known that it’ll arrive on HBO Max at some point in August.
