Rush Hour 4 Gets Disappointing Update Amid Pay Disputes – Report

Rush Hour 4 has received a discouraging update as anticipation for the long-awaited sequel builds. A new report indicates that deals with franchise stars Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have not been finalized due to pay disagreements. The two actors were reportedly offered significantly lower salaries than their earnings on Rush Hour 3, creating a problem for Paramount Pictures.

Rush Hour 4 leads haven’t reportedly closed deals to return

Rush Hour 4 is progressing toward production, but key agreements with its original stars remain unresolved. According to a recent report by Matthew Belloni’s Puck newsletter, deals with franchise leads Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have not yet been finalized. It has raised questions about their return despite renewed momentum behind the project at Paramount Pictures.

The report indicates that both actors have been offered approximately $8 million each to return. This is significantly lower than their previous salaries. For the third film, Chan earned around $20 million, while Tucker received an even higher payday. The stark difference in compensation has become a major point in discussions, with no confirmed agreement reached so far.

The development marks one of the most significant updates for the long-delayed sequel, which has been in discussion for years. The earlier films followed the partnership between Chan’s Inspector Lee and Tucker’s Detective Carter and achieved significant commercial success. This makes the potential reunion of the two leads important for the new part. However, ongoing negotiations suggest that securing both actors remains a key challenge at this stage.

The sequel is also expected to reunite the franchise with director Brett Ratner, who helmed the original trilogy. His potential return comes after a long absence from Hollywood following multiple allegations of misconduct.

The sequel’s progress also comes during a period of transition for Paramount, which is currently involved in a merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. With production reportedly targeted to begin later this year, finalizing deals with the lead actors remains the primary step before filming can move ahead.
