Popular Spider-Man Actor Has Good Reason for Not Being in Brand New Day
Spider-Man and Iron Man star Jon Favreau has a good reason as to why his MCU character, Happy Hogan, isn’t in Brand New Day.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day, also known as Spider-Man 4, will be released in United States theaters this summer. Directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Wonder Man’s Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie will see Tom Holland once again reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
One character who seemingly won’t be appearing in Spider-Man 4 is Favreau’s Happy Hogan. Originally the bodyguard and close friend of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, Happy then became something of a mentor and companion of Peter Parker following Iron Man’s death.
What did Jon Favreau say about Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Appearing on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Favreau confirmed that he will not be appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He did, however, offer a good reason as to why his character isn’t part of the film’s story.
“I’m not in it,” Favreau said. “[Peter] lost his memory. I’m not part of — he doesn’t remember me anymore. He might meet me again someday, I don’t know. But that’s how the last one ended, with him forgetting everything. Now it’s all about his new — I don’t know anything about it.”
While Favreau is on the right track with his comments, he appears to have switched some plot points around. In actuality, No Way Home ended with Peter’s friends forgetting who he is; Peter is still well-aware of who MJ, Ned, and Happy are, it’s just that MJ, Ned, and Happy now have no idea who Peter is. Brand New Day will see Peter try to reintroduce himself into his friends’ lives, but whether or not they ever truly remember who he is remains to be seen.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 4 arrives on July 31, 2026.
