Jackie Jackson says he and his siblings ‘wanted to be entertainers’
In a conversation with PEOPLE, Jackie Jackson clarified the misconception that their late father, Joe, forced them to get into music. He said, “No, he did not. We wanted to do it.” Marlon further admitted that Jackie is right before highlighting what fans can take away from the upcoming movie, Michael.
He said, “I want the people to understand when they come see this movie that this family is no different than any other family. We have our ups and downs, trials, tribulations. And we learned to agree to disagree. And it’s a huge family.”
In 1964, Joe recognized his children’s interest in music. He noticed their respective talents at a very young age and encouraged them to follow their dreams. For instance, he saw Tito playing with a broken guitar, which led him to buy him a new one. Tito, Jermaine, and Jackie made the group, adding Michael to play congas and later Marlon to play tambourine. Evelyn LaHaie suggested that the five siblings name their group as The Jackson 5. Early on, they used to perform mainly in talent shows and clubs before becoming influential and famous.
The musical biographical movie centers on the story of pop star Michael Jackson, chronicling his early days as part of the Jackson 5 and his growing creative ambition that made the way for him to become one of the world’s top entertainers.
The cast includes Jaafar Jackson, Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Jamal R. Henderson, Tre Horton, and others.
