What happens in the Clayface trailer?

The official synopsis for the new DC movie reads, “Clayface unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.”

Whether Batman will actually appear in Clayface remains to be seen. It wouldn’t be a terrible bet, given that Clayface is a Batman villain in DC Comics; however, there’s been no announcement about anyone being tapped to play Batman in the DCU — a secret that would surely be difficult to hide during the film’s production, as Clayface set photos and videos did make their way online. Still, there’s always the possibility that Batman could show up just for a quick cameo, though this has not in any way been confirmed by DC at this time.

Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, David Dencik, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James also star in Clayface, while Hossein Amini additionally contributed to the script. Watkins’ previous work as a director includes 2008’s Eden Lake, 2012’s The Woman in Black, 2016’s Bastille Day, and 2024’s Speak No Evil, while he’s also helmed episodes of Black Mirror and The Ipcress File. Additionally, Watkins created the TV show McMafia and was a second unit director on 2009’s The Descent Part 2.

Clayface arrives on October 23, 2026. Before that, the DCU movie Supergirl will be released this June, while Lanterns premieres this August.
