Coyote vs. Acme Trailer Previews Almost Canceled Looney Tunes Movie

Ketchup Entertainment has finally shared the official trailer for Coyote vs. Acme, the long-awaited Looney Tunes starring Saturday Night Live’s Will Forte and Peacemaker’s John Cena. The film is currently slated to arrive in theaters on August 28, 2026, nearly three years after it was shelved by Warner Bros., even though it has already completed its post-production.

“Wile E. Coyote, who, after Acme products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Roadrunner, decides to hire a billboard lawyer to sue the Acme Corporation,” reads the official synopsis. “The case pits Wile E. and his lawyer against the latter’s intimidating former boss, but a growing friendship between man and cartoon stokes their determination to win.”

Who made Coyote vs. Acme?

Coyote vs. Acme also stars Lana Condor, P.J. Byrne, Tone Bell, and Martha Kelly, with Eric Bauza voicing multiple Looney Tunes characters. The film is directed by Dave Green, with Sam Burch writing the screenplay. It is based on Ian Frazier’s 1990 humor article of the same name in The New Yorker. Chris deFaria and James Gunn are serving as producers, with Jesse Ehrman and Carsten H.W. Lorenz executive producing.

The live-action/animated hybrid film was nearly canceled in 2023 after Warner Bros. Discovery decided against releasing the movie in exchange for a a $30 million tax write-off. In 2025, Ketchup Entertainment was able to rescue the movie from Warner Bros.’ shelves, which reportedly cost the distributor around $50 million. This wasn’t the first time that Ketchup Entertainment has saved a Looney Tunes movie. The company also previously acquired the rights to the sci-fi animated comedy The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
