Underrated Sequel to Iconic Arnold Schwarzenegger Movie Is Free-Streaming Hit
The sequel to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s landmark 1987 sci-fi film has emerged as a major success on a free streaming service. What was once a universally panned action film eventually became a cult classic. Now, with its current ranking on the streaming charts, the interest among the franchise’s fans appears to be growing.
Predator 2 tops Tubi charts
As of April 21, Predator 2 is the #1 film on Tubi’s Top 10 films, per Flix Patrol’s report. While both Predator and Predator 2 arrived on the platform on April 15, the sequel has taken the top spot on the streaming charts. Meanwhile, the original film, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, currently ranks at #5.
Notably, this Top 10 list represents the Tubi audience’s streaming preference in the United States only. Other popular films on the charts include U.S. Marshals at #2, Goodfellas at #3, The Color Purple at #4, and A Few Good Men at #6.
Predator 2 is not a direct follow-up, but rather a standalone story that doesn’t feature the Terminator star. Stephen Hopkins, known for 24 and House of Lies, directed the film. Jim and John Thomas, the original film’s writers, wrote the sequel.
The story takes place in 1997, Los Angeles, as the city is in the center of a turf war between Colombian and Jamaican drug cartels amid a deadly heat wave. After the Colombians are brutally slaughtered, Lieutenant Mike Harrigan tries to locate the killer. Initially unaware, Harrigan learns the terrifying truth that the mysterious killer is not human, but an extraterrestrial hunter.
Predator 2’s cast features Danny Glover as Harrigan, Kevin Peter Hall as The Predator, Bill Paxton as Jerry, María Conchita Alonso as Leona, and Rubén Blades as Danny, among others.
Released on November 21, 1990, Predator 2 opened to extremely harsh reviews for its story. As a result, the critics gave it an approval rating of 36% on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, based on over 100,000 users, the audience score is at 44%. Furthermore, the film didn’t do well at the box office either. Produced on a reported budget of $20-$30 million, it grossed approximately $57.1 million worldwide.
