Anne Hathaway recently opened up about her attempts to make Devil Wears Prada 2 more body-inclusive in an interview with Canada’s ETalk. The Dark Knight Rises actress revealed that she initially felt there were too many traditional-sized models. Then she asked the production team to make an alteration.
Hathaway said, “I had seen that there were a lot of traditionally sized models in our movie and I just know that this movie is for everyone.” Talking to Lauren Chan for Etalk, she continued, “We also know in the last few years that the fashion industry can take a more inclusive approach to beauty standards, and I think that we’re all kind of happier when it’s like that, when everybody feels included.”
The Oscar-winning actress went on to recall her interaction with the movie’s producers about this. “I just went up to the producers and said, ‘Hey, do you think that we could?’ And they looked up, and they said, ‘We’re so embarrassed we didn’t notice, and of course.’ And within two hours, suddenly, there were more girls there. It made me happy.”
Previously, Meryl Streep, who co-stars in the film, also spoke about this incident (via Harper’s Bazaar). Streep said she was “struck by how not only beautiful and young, everyone seems young to me, but alarmingly thin the models were.”
Streep added, “I thought that all had been addressed years ago. Annie clocked it, too.” She continued, “and she made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal.” Streep praised Anne by saying, “She’s a stand-up girl.”
The Devil Wears Prada 2 premieres in theatres on May 1, 2026.
