Ice Cube and Tommy Lee Jones cast in Outside Man

Cube and Jones are teaming up for Helgeland’s crime movie Outside Man, according to a report by Deadline. Helgeland is also writing the movie. Cube and Jeff Kwatinetz will produce it via their Cube Vision banner, along with Bill Gerber and Teton Ridge Entertainment’s Jillian Share and Jen Gorton. Additionally, Ben Hurwitz of Cube Vision will serve as executive producer.

According to the outlet mentioned above, Outside Man’s plot centers on a former Chicago mob enforcer, Ruben (Cube), who seeks a fresh start after his release from prison. He hopes to find that in rural Texas, where he begins working for a furniture craftsman and retired Texas Ranger Gus Wanamaker (Jones). However, just as camaraderie starts to build between the two men, their former lives as a criminal and a lawman come calling.

Deadline also cited sources to report that the movie has drawn considerable interest from buyers after hitting the market.

Jones is a veteran actor who has been active in the industry since the ’60s. He has garnered widespread acclaim for roles in Love Story, Coal Miner’s Daughter, Natural Born Killers, Volcano, the Men in Black films, and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. Besides winning for The Fugitive, he got Oscar nods for JFK, In the Valley of Elah, and Lincoln. Outside Man is Jones’ second collaboration with Helgeland after the 2023 crime thriller Finestkind.

Meanwhile, Cube is an iconic rapper who has achieved significant success as an actor in the Barbershop, Are We There Yet?, Jump Street, Ride Along, and XXX franchises.

Outside Man currently doesn’t have a release date.
