Russell Crowe just gave fans their clearest look yet at what he is bringing to one of Hollywood’s most anticipated reboots. The actor’s latest social media post leaves little to no doubt about how seriously he is taking the role.

Russell Crowe shows off stunning transformation for Highlander reboot

Russell Crowe takes on the role of Ramirez in the upcoming Highlander reboot alongside Henry Cavill. The actor shared a training photo on his personal X account over the weekend. His post featured the caption “There can be only one …” and quickly amassed over 1 million views. The image shows Crowe in noticeably leaner shape ahead of filming the blockbuster action remake.

Chad Stahelski directs the reboot with a script from House of the Dragon creator Ryan J. Condal. Amazon MGM backs the project and shared new footage from the film at CinemaCon earlier this week. Henry Cavill posted the first behind-the-scenes photos from Highlander on his personal Instagram earlier this year.

Collider first reported Crowe’s involvement in the film as Ramirez, the mentor role Sean Connery originated in 1986.

The cast surrounding Cavill and Crowe includes Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, and Marisa Abela. Bautista is known for The Wrecking Crew, while Gillan starred in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Irons appeared in Batman vs. Superman, and Hounsou earned acclaim for Blood Diamond. Abela rounds out the ensemble following her breakout role in Industry.

The original 1986 Highlander starred Christopher Lambert and followed an immortal Scottish swordsman facing his final opponent. Amazon MGM has not yet released an official synopsis for the reboot. The studio has also not confirmed a release date for the film. Industry observers currently anticipate a premiere window sometime during Q3 or Q4 of 2027. Neal H. Moritz produces the project, with Michael Finch and Kerry Williamson also contributing to the screenplay alongside Condal.
