Laura Linney Admits 1 of Her Worst Movies Was a ‘Delightmare’

Laura Linney expressed her appreciation for one of the “bad movies” from her early career. She revealed that she hasn’t watched the film in a long time but looks forward to revisiting the 1995 adventure-action movie to remember her days as a young actress. The film stars Linney as Dr. Karen Ross, a former CIA operative and electronics expert at TraviCom.

Laura Linney says her debut film was ‘delightmare’

In a conversation with The Independent, Linney spoke about working on Congo, which received mostly negative reviews; however, it earned decently at the box office, making $152 million on a budget of $50 million. Expressing her appreciation for the critically panned movie, she said, “Congo’s one of the great bad movies of our time! It’s a great one. It’s a delightmare. That’s what I call it.”

Linney also revealed that she looks forward to rewatching it when she is very old, so she can remember what her younger self was like. “I’ll go back to it when I’m really old and want to feel good about myself, and be like, ‘Oh God, I was young. I was sweet — look at that. And look at my arms!’ I’ll do that,” she elaborated.

In an earlier conversation with Collider, Linney shared what set Congo apart from her later performance-capture experiences. She said, “They had little girls in ape outfits in Congo. There’s a big difference because you’re looking into a human face (with motion capture). And the four guys who play the turtles are fantastic, they’re really unsung heroes, those guys, they are really good actors, they have a great time together, their energy is infectious on set.”

Revealing that she had fun working on the set, she further added, “The special effects that sort of encase them are terrific as well, so it’s a great combination of these fantastic young men and this great technology that’s happened, so it was very exciting to be around. I’ve gotta say, I was hoping that I would have fun, but I had no idea I would have as much fun as I did. You know, with Congo, they were little girls in suits. So parts of that movie worked, and some of it didn’t.”

The movie centered around a team led by a former CIA operative sent to find a missing expedition, only to encounter deadly scenarios in the jungle.
