Pedro Almodóvar talks about Jacob Elordi
Pedro Almodóvar recently addressed Jacob Elordi’s career. He recognized the actor’s rising popularity, saying Elordi is likely to become a major star. At the same time, he questioned how to define him at this stage.
Speaking on the Spanish podcast “La Pija y la Quinqui,” (via Variety), he said, “I’ve been wondering whether he’s just a sex symbol or a respected actor.” That question highlights the current debate around Elordi, and it stays central to the discussion. Almodóvar said he wants to see Elordi take on stronger roles before making a final judgment.
He also reviewed some of Elordi’s recent work, and his opinion stayed clear. He pointed to Wuthering Heights and Frankenstein, saying these projects do not fully show the actor’s ability. He described Wuthering Heights as “very bad” but he clarified that Elordi and his costar Margot Robbie were not responsible.
For Frankenstein, he explained that the role can feel easier, because it focuses more on visuals than emotion. He said, “We need to see him — or at least I do — in another role that demands more of him.”
Jacob Elordi continues to take on major projects, and his profile keeps growing. His next project, The Dog Stars, features an all-star cast including Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, and Benedict Wong.
Ridley Scott directs the film from a screenplay written by Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson. The film is based on the 2012 novel by Peter Heller and is schedule to released on August 28, 2026.
For now, Pedro Almodóvar wants to see how Jacob Elordi’s future choices may shape how he is viewed and whether he moves beyond that current perception of a sex symbol.
