Avengers: Doomsday debuts trailer at CinemaCon
Marvel Studios debuted the first extensive trailer for Avengers: Doomsday at CinemaCon on Thursday, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The footage revealed Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in his mask for the first time. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige closed out Disney’s Las Vegas presentation with the reveal.
Feige took the stage to introduce the multi-verse mashup film, which brings Downey back to the Marvel fold. “Doomsday picks up where Avengers: Endgame left off,” Feige said. He also expressed excitement about introducing the Avengers to the X-Men. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo return to helm the project. They are working from a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.
Joe Russo described the villain at the presentation. “He’s not simply a villain — he’s one of the most complex Marvel characters. He’s always three moves ahead,” Russo said. Downey then took the stage to the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil.” The actor previously portrayed Tony Stark’s Iron Man in the MCU across multiple films.
“I couldn’t have imagined reuniting with this amazing team — let alone as a new character,” Downey said. The trailer then showed Chris Hemsworth’s Thor rallying the heroes against Doom. “If you return, you will return as brother and sisters,” Thor says in the footage. “Mark my words: We are going to need a miracle.”
The footage ended with Chris Evans surprising Hemsworth and grabbing Thor’s hammer. “It’s not possible,” Thor responds in the scene. Evans took the stage afterwards and quipped about Doom, “This guy, I don’t like it.”
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
