New Tom and Jerry Movie Sets Theatrical Release Date

Viva Kids has announced the theatrical release date for Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass, the upcoming animated comedy from Warner Bros. This serves as the latest feature-length movie in the long-running film franchise

“When legendary rivals Tom and Jerry collide during a high-speed chase through New York’s Metropolitan Museum, they unleash a mythical compass, opening a vortex that hurls them into an ancient, dazzling metropolis lost in time,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “Dropped into this dangerous world, Jerry is pulled into the orbit of a cunning crime lord while Tom is mistaken for a divine messenger. To survive, Tom and Jerry must outsmart their enemies and finally work together to make it home.”

When is the release date for Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass?

Following its theatrical debut in China in August 2025, Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass will finally arrive in U.S. theaters on September 9, 2026, pitting it against no direct competition at the box office. However, it will still be debuting in the same month as high-profile movies like Alan Ritchson’s Runner, Sandra Bullock’s Practical Magic 2, Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil, Aardman Animation’s new Shaun the Sheep movie, and Universal Pictures’ Forgotten Island.

The upcoming animated movie is written and directed by Gang Zhang, based on the iconic characters from Hanna-Barbera. The PG-rated film is produced by Chen Bofei, Ruoqing Fu, Jasmine Gao, Shaojing Yang, and Huixia Zhang. Warner Bros. China appointed Beijing-based Blossoms Entertainment to develop and oversee sales for the film. It currently has a total runtime of 94 minutes.
