New James Bond Casting Update Shows Amazon Is Doing 007 the Right Way
Fans continue to wait for an update on who Amazon’s next James Bond might be. Even though there’s been no news, that doesn’t mean Amazon isn’t doing things the right way in its search.
Amazon proves it knows how important James Bond is with casting update
Last year, Amazon MGM Studios made a deal with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to obtain full creative control of the James Bond franchise. Shortly after that deal was made, it was announced that Denis Villeneuve would direct the next 007 movie.
Since then, there have been non-stop rumors about who might be playing the next Bond. Stars like Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, Harris Dickinson, and Aaron-Taylor Johnson have all seen their names cast into the ring to play the iconic character, but no actual information has been revealed as of yet.
Fans thought this would change at this week’s CinemaCon, but Amazon MGM didn’t have much in the way of updates. Instead, they confirmed that the search was underway and that the company knows well just how big of a deal it is.
“Now, I know you’re all wondering when we’re going to announce who’s playing James Bond,” said Courtenay Valenti, head of film at Amazon MGM Studios (via Variety). “Don’t get too excited. Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect. It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly.”
The comment, while likely not what fans wanted to hear or see, is a good one. The fact that the studio isn’t rushing to just pick the most popular name or whoever the hottest actor at the time might be means that they know just how important getting the role right is. Generally, whoever plays James Bond is tabbed to play the character for more than one film, so Amazon has a big responsibility on its hands to get it right, not only for the upcoming movie, but for the future of the character.
The next James Bond movie does not yet have a release date. The movie is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight.
