Spaceballs 2 Sets Official Title, Watch New Teaser Trailer With Mel Brooks

Mel Brooks unveiled the official title for Spaceballs 2 in a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated sequel. The original movie debuted in 1987, and while it wasn’t initially a critical and commercial success, it has since gained cult classic status. Conversations about a potential sequel had been around for years until Amazon MGM Studios announced that a second movie was in the works in 2024.

Amazon MGM Studios discloses official Spaceballs 2 title, debuts new teaser

Brooks revealed in a pre-taped message at CinemaCon 2026 that the title of Spaceballs 2 is Spaceballs: The New One. Previously, Brooks had said that the sequel’s title could be Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money (via E! News).

In the aforementioned pre-tape, he hilariously clarified that the title won’t be “The Search for More Money” as he has already “found the money” after all these years. “It was in my basement,” he added. Amazon MGM Studios has since made the pre-taped teaser trailer available on its social media.

Several members of the cast and crew were present at the CinemaCon presentation, including cast member and writer-producer Josh Gad, Bill Pullman, Lewis Pullman, Keke Palmer, and director Josh Greenbaum. Rick Moranis, who is reprising his role as Lord Dark Helmet, also attended the event.

This is Moranis’ first live-action cinematic role since 1997’s Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. In the ’80s and ’90s, the actor garnered widespread fame for memorable roles in movies like Ghostbusters; Ghostbusters II; and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Additionally, a first-look footage was also part of the presentation, along with more pre-taped messages. In the clip from the movie, the narrator teases, “Space: dark, cold, infinite. A universe filled with heroes and villains where the fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of the few, and blasters go pew-pew-pew.” Brooks makes an appearance in the Yoda make-up, as does Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet (at a urinal) (via Deadline).

Gad penned the screenplay for Spaceballs: The New One with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. He and Brooks are producing the movie with Ron Howard, Greenbaum, Kevin Salter, Jeb Brody, and Brian Grazer. It premieres in US theaters on April 23, 2027.
