‘Do Whatever the F– You Want’: Daniel Radcliffe’s Advice To Stranger Things Stars
Daniel Radcliffe recently revealed the wise advice he passed on to a few young actors of Stranger Things. He then went on to talk about how his early success with the Harry Potter film series gave him the freedom to make the choices he enjoys today. While he knows that one can’t always remain in a strong position as an actor due to past success, he believes in using such moments and extracting the most out of them.
Daniel Radcliffe explains Harry Potter and Stranger Things’ impact
In a conversation with Josh Horowitz, Radcliffe revealed that he met a few Stranger Things kids recently and gave them some advice. “I was like, ‘Do whatever the f**k you want. You have done the thing. You now have the most amazing jumping-off platform,” he added. He gave an example of Gaten Matarazzo from Stranger Things, who has been involved in multiple Sondheim shows and the Pizza movie with Nick and Bryant.
Radcliffe revealed that, looking at these young actors, many might think they’re making “smart choices”, but it’s really just them doing the things they like. He believes that should be the ultimate goal, when one gets such a successful start to their career, and to use it as a chance to do what one likes. Moreover, he also reflected on the impact of Harry Potter on his career and how his success early with it brought him the freedom of choice.
Horowitz agreed with Radcliffe’s thoughts, revealing that once one is secured financially, they can be creative and do what they love. Reflecting on the free will one gets with a good career start, Radcliffe added, “Yeah, absolutely. No actors are ever in that position. If you are in the industry, you know that most actors will never have that level of autonomy over their career where you can say, ‘I wanna do this,’ and where some things that you do stand a better chance of happening because you’re doing them.”
“That’s not a position that any of us will be in forever, but while you’re in it, just make hay while the sun shines,” he added, encouraging young actors to make the most of their breakthrough moments.
