Universal reveals new clip of Disclosure Day at CinemaCon
Universal Pictures unveiled fresh footage from Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day at CinemaCon on Wednesday.
The film marks Spielberg’s return to summer blockbuster filmmaking after a decade focused on personal dramas like The Fabelmans and prestige projects like West Side Story. Its plot follows visitors from another planet and a government conspiracy to conceal their arrival.
Emily Blunt stars as a weather reporter linked to otherworldly visitors, while Josh O’Connor plays a man who holds evidence of extraterrestrial contact. Colin Firth portrays a nefarious bureaucrat determined to silence the heroes. Eve Hewson and Colman Domingo complete the ensemble cast, with David Koepp of Jurassic Park writing the script.
“I’ve been curious ever since I was a little kid about what was happening in the night sky,” Spielberg said. He referenced a 2017 New York Times report on a secret Pentagon program investigating mysterious sightings as evidence that UFOs are real.
“The world became more accepting of the fact that we probably are not alone,” Spielberg said (via Variety). He added, “I believe this movie is going to answer questions and this movie is going to cause a lot of people to ask a lot of questions. All you need to get from beginning to end is a seat belt.”
The footage showed Blunt and O’Connor crashing through a farmhouse while evading government agents and climbing onto a speeding train. Glimpses revealed a ship materialising from an ink-black sky and a non-human hand caressing a face.
Motion Picture Association CEO Charlie Rivkin presented Spielberg with the “one-time honor, the America 250 award” at the event. Spielberg also urged studios to extend theatrical windows and invest in original films. Disclosure Day opens on June 12.
