Coyote vs. Acme Throws Shade at WB Tax Write-Off, Trailer Release Date Set
Ketchup Entertainment announced the first trailer release date for Coyote vs. Acme, the long-awaited Looney Tunes movie, with a new teaser. The brief clip throws shade at Warner Bros. Discovery and its decision to shelve the movie as a tax write-off.
When is the Coyote vs. Acme trailer release date?
In honor of Tax Day in the U.S. (April 15), the short clip featuring Wile E. Coyote announced that a trailer for Coyote vs. Acme will premiere next week. “Coyote vs. Acme has elected to file its trailer next week,” the caption reads.
In the brief teaser, Coyote holds up a sign that says “Happy Tax Day” before flipping it to the other side to reveal it says “Check Your Write-Offs.” The Coyote then crashes to the ground. The clip is poking fun at Warner Bros.’ controversial decision to claim a $30 million tax write-off on the $70 million movie rather than release it.
In November 2023, Warner Bros. eventually reversed course on its tax write-off plans and allowed the filmmakers to sell the film to another distributor. The movie sat in limbo for over a year, with the public rallying against Warner Bros. to support the film.
In March 2025, Ketchup Entertainment acquired the worldwide rights to Coyote vs. Acme from Warner Bros.
“Wile E. Coyote, who, after Acme products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Roadrunner, decides to hire a billboard lawyer (Forte) to sue the Acme Corporation,” the official synopsis reads. “The case pits Wile E. and his lawyer against the latter’s intimidating former boss (Cena), but a growing friendship between man and cartoon stokes their determination to win.”
Coyote vs. Acme stars Will Forte as Kevin Avery, Coyote’s lawyer; Lana Condor as Paige Avery, Kevin’s niece; and John Cena as Buddy Crane, Acme’s lawyer. P.J. Byrne, Tone Bell, Martha Kelly, and Luis Guzmán are also set to appear.
Besides Wile E. Coyote, many Looney Tunes characters will appear, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Tweety.
Dave Green directs Coyote vs. Acme from a screenplay by Samy Burch. James Gunn and Chris deFaria are producers. The movie is based on Ian Frazier’s 1990 “Coyote vs. Acme” humor article in The New Yorker.
The film will be released theatrically on August 28, 2026.
