Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega’s upcoming film The Great Beyond has officially unveiled its first teaser trailer, marking the project’s debut footage. The movie, directed by J. J. Abrams, represents his return to original storytelling and has been in development for quite some time.

The teaser trailer for The Great Beyond was officially unveiled at CinemaCon, giving audience their first look at the long-awaited project from J. J. Abrams. The video offered an early glimpse into the film’s tone and visuals while deliberately keeping major plot details under wraps. The reveal marks Abrams’ return to directing following his last feature in 2019.

According to Variety, the teaser itself avoids revealing a clear plot but hints at a story involving an unknown or hidden world. It opens with a quote attributed to H. G. Wells before showing a series of retro-style machines and systems coming to life. From the video, it seems that the characters, played by Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, are exploring a mysterious alternate environment. 

During his presentation, Abrams spoke about his decision to shift focus towards developing original material. He explained that the idea for the film had been with him for years and required considerable time to shape due to “extensive world building.” The director added, “I didn’t want it to just be one thing, not just a thriller or a mystery or a love story or sci-fi. I wanted it to be a bit of all of those things, and I wanted it to be big.”

The film features an ensemble cast that also includes Emma Mackey, Samuel L. Jackson, Sophie Okonedo, and Merritt Wever. Abrams serves as writer and director, and is producing alongside Tommy Gormley. The film is currently scheduled for a wide theatrical release on November 13, 2026.
