Margot Robbie reveals plot details for Ocean’s Eleven prequel
Margot Robbie confirmed the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel will center on Danny Ocean’s parents during CinemaCon.
The film will follow the two con artists as they pull off an elaborate heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix. “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows,” Robbie said (via Variety). “You’ll see them in their prime, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.” Robbie and Bradley Cooper star in the film, presumably as the parents of Danny Ocean. George Clooney originally portrayed the suave heist leader in Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 Ocean’s Eleven.
Separately, Clooney is reviving the original trilogy with another sequel starring Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Don Cheadle. That film will follow the group as aging criminals returning to the heist game.
Ocean’s Eleven prequel to release in 2027
Bradley Cooper took over directing duties after filmmakers Lee Isaac Chung and Jay Roach both departed the project. Robbie is producing the film through her company LuckyChap, with Carrie Solomon penning the screenplay. Warner Bros. announced a June 25, 2027 release date for the yet-to-be-titled film at CinemaCon.
Warner Bros. also previewed several other 2027 releases at CinemaCon, including A Minecraft Movie 2 and the Keanu Reeves sci-fi thriller Shiver. The studio’s upcoming slate features Tom Cruise’s Digger, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part III, DC’s Supergirl and Practical Magic 2. Warner Bros. is coming off a strong 2025, with seven consecutive releases opening above $40 million.
Those films generated a combined $4.4 billion at the global box office, a studio benchmark not reached since 2019. “That milestone reaffirms a simple but powerful truth,” studio co-chair Mike De Luca said at CinemaCon. “When you fearlessly build an eclectic slate anchored by a diverse line of great films, audiences will show up.”
