$132 Million Horror Sequel To Stream on Netflix After Peacock

A $132 million horror movie is heading to Netflix‘s catalog next month. It previously streamed on Peacock, amassing incredibly strong viewership and topping the streaming charts. The film, featuring Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames in key roles, premiered in theaters last year to a generally positive reception.

Black Phone 2 sets Netflix streaming release date

Black Phone 2 will start streaming on Netflix on May 16, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix). Its arrival on the OTT giant is the result of the film’s distributor Universal Pictures’ deal with the platform. Under the agreement, the latter’s live-action titles will stream on the former exclusively for 10 months, following its initial 4-month Peacock run before moving back to the latter.

The horror sequel to 2021’s The Black Phone originally premiered on Peacock on January 16, 2026. Within a week of release, it cultivated a strong viewership and climbed to the top of streaming charts.

Taking place four years after the previous entry’s events, the story sees Finney Blake’s sister, Gwen, experience mysterious dreams where she witnesses three boys being killed. The visions prompt her to convince her brother and their friend, Ernesto, to travel with her to Alpine Lake Camp, haunted by the ghostly presence of the Grabber, the masked child serial killer whom Finney previously killed. Following their arrival, the trio begins investigating the mystery tied to the psychopathic murderer’s original victims.

Black Phone 2 premiered in the United States on October 17, 2025. It grossed $132 million globally, considerably lower than the original’s $161.4 million worldwide gross.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts “certified fresh” critical and robust audience scores of 72% and 82%. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, it displays a “generally favorable” Metascore of 61 and a “mixed or average” user score of 5.9.

Scott Derrickson directed the movie and co-wrote the screenplay with C. Robert Cargill, both reprising their duties from the original. Additionally, the pair co-produced it with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions.

Madeleine McGraw, Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Jeremy Davies, and the late James Ransone make up the main cast, reprising their roles of Gwen, the Grabber, Finney, Terrence, and Max from the first installment. Joining them are Miguel Mora, Demián Bichir, Arianna Rivas, Maev Baety, Graham Abbey, and Anna Lore.
