R-Rated Sydney Sweeney Movie With Her Unique Looks Rules on Streaming

An R-rated movie starring Sydney Sweeney that had a poor theatrical run at the time of release has found massive success on streaming. Although it only entered the OTT world recently, it has managed to fight its way to the top of the charts, thanks to a wider audience and strong viewership. Its success marks a renewed life for the feature in the entertainment space.

Christy is dominating on HBO Max after theatrical flop

Christy, Sydney Sweeney’s R-rated sports drama biopic, is the #1 movie on HBO Max in the United States as of April 13. At #2 is Ballerina, which earlier held the top spot (via FlixPatrol).

It also surpasses other titles listed in the top 10 list: The Mummy (#3), The Mummy Returns (#4), The Devil Wears Prada (#5), Game Night (#6), Alien: Romulus (#7), Twister (#8), Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic (#9), and The Family (#10).

David Michôd helmed Christy from his and Mirrah Foulkes’ screenplay. Meanwhile, Katherine Fugate wrote the story.

Adapting the real-life narrative of former professional boxer Christy Martin or Christine Renea Salters, the film chronicles her rise to fame as America’s most notable female boxer in the 1990s. It also covers other major events in her personal life, including her coach-turned-husband James V. Martin’s attempted murder of her in 2010. In addition to Sweeney, the movie features Ben Foster, Merritt Weaver, Katy O’Brian, and Chad L. Coleman, among others.

Following its release on November 7, 2025, Christy flopped heavily. It made only $2 million against its $15 million budget at the box office.

Sweeney underwent significant physical preparation to embody Martin in the film, gaining over 30 pounds in the process. The actress told W Magazine that her training spanned roughly three and a half months. Offering insight, she stated, “I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.”

She also revealed how it had a major effect on her physical appearance. “My body was completely different,” Sweeney recalled, adding that she was unable to fit into any of her clothes. “I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger,” she elaborated. “And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god.”
