Dwayne Johnson’s Jumanji 3 Gets Title, Plot & Footage With Robin Williams Easter Egg

Sony Pictures has officially powered up Jumanji 4 during CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The third film for Dwayne Johnson has long been discussed as the final installment for the current cast. But now it finally has an official title, a first look, and more.

Dwayne Johnson’s next Jumanji is called Open World, plot revealed

Dwayne Johnson’s Jumanji 3 title, or rather, the official name for the fourth franchise entry, has been revealed as Jumanji: Open World. Convention attendees were shown exclusive footage indicating that in this final one, “the game comes home.”

The teaser opens with characters examining an old video game console before reality begins to warp around them. Danny DeVito’s character gathers the crew at a diner, where Dwayne Johnson’s Dr. Bravestone is found speaking with a surprising Spanish accent, a comedic bit that extends to an argument with Kevin Hart later in the footage.

The plot, driven by the video game characters being stuck in “demo mode,” sees Karen Gillan and Jack Black returning to the fray. As they encounter the familiar Jumanji tour guide, the action escalates, making the jungle mix with the real world. Massive animals, including lizards and rhinos, rampage through reality while Johnson hilariously struggles to navigate highway driving. The Jumanji open world concept is literal, showing avatars racing through both environments before the title card confirms the group must head back in to save the day.

Additionally, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that every single scene in Jumanji: Open World contains an Easter egg, like one half of the original dice from the 1995 classic. “This is the dice from the original Jumanji with Robin Williams as a show of respect and a way of honoring Robin and this entire franchise that he started as we film our very last Jumanji.” The cast sees Nick Jonas alongside Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, Marin Hinkle, and Rhys Darby. Newcomers Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes also join the ensemble (via Screenrant).

After moving from a December 11 date, Jumanji: Open World will open on Christmas Day.
