007: New Actor Emerges as Favorite to Be New James Bond
The James Bond reboot has received a big casting update.
Last year, Amazon MGM Studios made a deal with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to obtain full creative control of the James Bond franchise. Shortly after that deal was made, it was announced that Denis Villeneuve would be directing the next 007 movie.
Since then, there’s been nearly non-stop rumors about who might be playing the next Bond. Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, and Harris Dickinson are some of the more common names floating around on the internet; however, mostly everything seems to be speculation at this time, as there’s been no formal announcement as to who will be picking up the mantle from Daniel Craig.
What is the James Bond casting update?
Per Variety, it has now come to light that Louis Partridge is “in contention” for the role of 007, with the outlet specifically noting that this “contention” is “beyond simply being put on a bookmaker’s list.”
The casting is not official, yet, as the article also notes, “As with almost anything regarding Hollywood’s most famous superspy that’s not come directly out of the mouths of its key creative team, it’s important to note that this is no more than speculation. Attempts to confirm with Partridge’s reps or Amazon MGM Studios have been as predictably futile as any Bond villain’s wildly-complicated plans for global domination.
“The Partridge rumor does, however, align with widespread chatter that the incoming 007 will be much younger than previous Bonds. Following a (speculative, of course) report in Deadline earlier this year, the word ‘fresh-faced’ has done the rounds, and many in the industry Variety has spoken to seem to be sure the age is being dialed down a few notches.”
If Partridge, who is 23, does get the part, he will be the youngest Bond ever, second to George Lazenby, who was 29 when he filmed On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
Partridge plays Viscount Tewkesbury in the Enola Holmes movies and Edward Guinness in the House of Guinness show. He’ll soon be seen playing George Wickham in the Pride and Prejudice Netflix show, while his filmography also includes 2015’s Pan, 2017’s Paddington 2, 2022’s The Lost Girls, 2024’s Argylle, and 2025’s Jay Kelly.
A release date for the new James Bond movie has not been announced.
